Varcum 29577 is a dark colored liquid furfuryl alcohol polymer. Varcum 29577 is recommended for use in the formulation of acid resistant mortars and in the manufacture of chemical process equipment. Exhibits a high degree of chemical resistance to both acids and alkalis when cured. Polymerizes rapidly when acidified. The rate of polymerization is proportional to the strength of the acid catalyst and the temperature of the catalyzed resin solution. The amount of catalyst may vary from 1-5% depending on the required balance of cure rate and working life. Commonly used suitable catalysts are the weaker acids: Benzene Sulfonic, Maleic, Oxalic and Phosphoric. If necessary Varcum 29577 can be prepared on special order in various viscosity ranges in order to fit specific application requirements.
